Affordable, environmentally friendly kitchen cabinets? Sounds like an oxymoron.

Elements of Green of Kansas City (supported by a reputable local cabinetmaker) has introduced a new line of cabinetry that is just this, environmentally friendly and affordable. 

“The big difference is these are premium grade cabinets,” Sabin said. “Not builder grade.”

The cabinet boxes are made of a Forest Stewardship Council-certified Duramine brand melamine on Skyblend No Urea-formaldehyde added particleboard core by Roseburg.  Doors are made from a choice of:

Bamboo, Smith & Fong Plyboo, Moso bamboo is harvested from a forest that requires no irrigation, fertilizers or pesticides. Each year, only 20 percent of the plantation’s bamboo — only the five-year growth — is cut, ensuring the forest canopy remains intact and the ecosystem is not disturbed.  Smith & Fong Plyboo is the only bamboo plywood to obtain the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification. 

Wheat board, similar to particle board, small fibers glued together to make a larger board. It’s made from straw, the stalk of a cereal plant after the grain or seed has been removed. Recycling this unwanted agricultural byproduct into building materials increases the useful yield from the crop and reduces the pollution created when it is burned to clear the fields.

Materials, including finishes, are free of volatile organic compounds like formaldehyde. We also offer a choice of painted or stained as well as unfinished. Door hinges are soft-closing and drawers are self-closing from Blum Hardware with a lifetime warranty as an upgade we offer the soft-closing drawer glides.  Other options include: single or double trash recepticle rollouts, pull out shelving, white wire cookie sheet dividers, lid organizers and other customization as desired.
