Keeping the polyethylene-coated cups and cartons out of the landfill will divert 2 million tons of waste. 

Beverage containers are now recycled into ceiling tiles and a plywood / OSB substitute by ReWall of Des Moins, IA.  The environmentally friendly European process in use by ReWall requires no added glues, water or chemicals to transform the cartons unlike alternate recycling methods currently deployed which strip away the plastic and remove the ink in order to turn the remaining paper into consumer products such as napkins and tissues - a very energy intensive process.                                                            

The recently launched fiberboard, made from 100 percent recycled content, can be used for interior and exterior walls, ceiling tiles, roof sheathing, floor underlayment, structural insulated materials and countertop substrate.  The plastic from the cartons results in a water-resistant building material.  This is very exciting becasue the finished product contains no formaldehyde, caustic binders or added chemicals of any kind.  And all of this comes with a price point comparable to similar building materials.

Use the 'naked' sheets as we would general building materials such as plywood, OSB strand board or countertop substrate.  And use the paper covered sheets on interior walls instead of sheet rock.
